Lottery grant for Crystal Palace Pictures

25th March 2010

We're genuinely delighted to announce that Crystal Palace Pictures has received a Lottery grant through Film London, part of the UK Film Council.

Film London's Outer Boroughs Pilot Fund supports projects that provide "consistent and coherent film viewing opportunities beyond mainstream commercial cinema to audiences in London's outer boroughs."

We will use this money to help cover marketing and licensing costs in our first year. It will also pay for a community outreach programme, taking cinema to those who would normally find it difficult to go themselves, such as older people or those with disabilities.

This funding will have a real impact for years to come. It means we can plan ahead with confidence. It means any surplus made this year can cover next years costs; no more struggling by week-by-week. It means we can now say that Crystal Palace Pictures is here to stay!

I'd like to say a big thank you to Film London and to everyone who has supported us: Dulwich Paradiso, local councillors Andrew Gibson and George Filby, The Norwood Society, The Crystal Palace Community Association and the Upper Norwood Library. An extra special thank you to Frank at The Gipsy Hill Tavern, we really could not have done any of this without you!

Happy New Year!

2nd Jan 2010

A big "Happy New Year" goes out to everyone in Crystal Palace, especially to all those who've helped make Crystal Palace Pictures such a success. We've been thrilled at the response to our new venture over the last few months and are looking forward to an amazing 2010.

We'd especially like to thank Frank and all the wonderful staff at the Gipsy Hill Tavern for being such wonderful hosts. We couldn't have got off the ground without their support, and the use of the vast 17 foot screen has made a fabulous impact with our local film goers.

Thank you everyone for helping us bring films back to the Palace. We can't wait to bring you more this year and have loads of fun and interesting things in the pipeline. Watch this space!

CPP Needs You!

18th November 2009

We've got some big ideas but we need your help. Interested? Whether it's handing out leaflets or managing a film festival, come to the Gipsy Hill Tavern this Sunday, 22nd November at 3pm. RSVP!! Let us know if you can't come on Sunday and we can arrange another meet.

Halloween Special this week!

24th October 2009

Local, award winning filmmaker Frazer Lee will be our special guest at our Halloween special on Thursday 29th October. Frazer will introduce his horror short, 'On Edge' and do a Q&A session afterwards. This is your chance to find out about what goes on behind the scenes from one of Britain's up-and-coming directors. An opportunity not to be missed!

And we're off!

5th October 2009

Crystal Palace Pictures got off to a flying start last Thursday with a screening of Chris Shepherd's 'The Broken Jaw' and Martin McDonagh's 'In Bruges'. We were lucky enough to have Chris come along to introduce his film and answer a few questions afterwards. Entertaining everyone with tales of getting in to the business (The Broken Jaw was his professional debut) and abandoned Liverpool pubs, I'm sure this is not the last we've seen of Chris!

We'd like to thank everyone who came along for making it such a top night with a really lovely atmosphere. Feedback was excellent. Comments included, "Great night!", "Good venue" and "Great start! Can I move to Crystal Palace?" With your support we can go from strength to strength.

Hope to see you on the 15th for The Third Man!

Starting as we mean to continue

19th September 2009

Starting as we mean to continue, we kick off with a short film called 'The Broken Jaw' about the changing fortunes of a pub over the decades, introduced by writer and director Chris Shepherd. He'll also be around to answer any questions afterwards.

We see short films as an important part of what we do and, wherever possible, we will try to get the filmmakers along to talk about their work. Crystal Palace Pictures is about more than just watching a movie. It's about learning more about films, discussing them and the issues they raise.

Setting the world of cinema to rights in a pub? What could be better?

The website goes live!

18th September 2009

Our new website is finally live!

We've kept the initial site quite simple so that you can easily find your way around. Over time, we'll be adding lots of exciting features such as a blog, a searchable index of all the films in our programme and possibly even a forum where you can discuss everything film.

If you have any ideas on what you'd like to see on the site, let us know with an email: hello@crystalpalacepictures.com

Don't forget that you can also follow us on Twitter, and we have a Facebook group where you can chat with likeminded film buffs. The links are at the top and bottom of every page. See you there!
