Synopsis

Two seemingly unrelated deaths lead dogged Detective (Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson) on a journey through the Icelandic criminal underworld, the genetic make-up of the Icelandic nation and the harrowing truth about his own deeply troubled daughter.

Based on the popular Arnaldur Indriða novels, Jar City is as foreboding as a bleak northern winter. Director of ’101 Reykjavik’, Baltasar Kormákur’s beautifully shot police procedural cleaned up at the 2006 Edda Awards, Iceland’s equivalent to the BAFTAs. It has also won high praise on the festival circuit as a brilliantly dark and intense thriller.
