Synopsis
It’s New Year’s Eve and Wilson (Scoot McNairy) has had a terrible year. Bullied by his best friend, he puts an ad on Craig’s list, “misanthrope seeks misanthrope.” We then follow Wilson and Vivian (Sara Simmonds) through an unfamiliar and beautiful Los Angeles as midnight approaches and the misanthropes find that other people might not be quite so bad after all.
A big hit on the festival circuit, writer/ director Alex Holdridge has created a funny and tender love story that is full of hope. With humour that’s often very near the knuckle, this is a film about old fashioned romance in a very modern world. One of the lead characters is downtown LA itself. Looking like you’ve rarely, if ever, seen it before, this film does for the City of Angels what Woody Allen did for Manhattan. A wonderful start to 2010.
